DB Regio win Tyne & Wear Metro contract

Nexus today announced that DB Regio have been chosen as preferred bidder for a 9-year contract to operate stations and trains on the Tyne & Wear Metro network, including the £20m refurbishment of the 90-strong Metrocar fleet.

East Coast franchise hand-over next week?

A BBC News article suggests that the handover of the East Coast franchise from National Express to the Department for Transport's Directly Operated Railways Limited subsidiary is to take place on Friday 13 November, a month earlier than expected.

Advenza Freight cease trading

Gloucester-based operator Advenza Freight has been wound up following a hearing in the High Court of Justice today, following the suspension of their operating licence and safety case at the end of last week. Advenza has seen a decline in traffic in recent months, after losing the National Express East Anglia thunderbird contract to Direct Rail Services, and the end of frequent Stockton-Cardiff scrap movements. Advenza's three Class 66 locomotives have been repossessed by Porterbrook and taken into store at Wembley, while the remaining locomotives are now in the hands of assessors.
