On this day: 1984 - BREL launches Mk3-derived 'International Coach' design. 1988 - Doncaster-Leeds electrification energised. National Express lose East Coast  National Express are set to lose the lucrative East Coast franchise after talks with the government failed at the weekend.The move comes after disappointing passenger growth, and follows NX boss Richard Bowker's resignation on Tuesday. Originally pencilled in for a December start, the first service was Monday's 0648 Ashford-St Pancras, reaching the capital in just 37 minutes. The last diesel freight locomotives built in the UK, 100 Class 60s were built at the Leicestershire works.
