Yeh wen will these exciting new trains enter service for Overground? I presume its before the class 172s.. am i right the London Overground 172s (predominately for Gospel Oak-Barking) enter service same time as LM 172s, that being around mid 2010? but the 378s enter service way before then right?

Then we can get rid of those 313s! I take it Overground have already stored the 508s?

I believe the Class 378's are due to enter service from end of January next year with all trains being delivered by 2010.

There has only ever been one train reported delivered, 378001, and it has usually been based at Willesden. Last week (17th of Dec) it was reported DC testing out of Chart Leacon (Ashford).

This unit seems to have been kept quite quiet recently, anyone aware of any movement it will be making this week? I'd love to go and see it, the problem is... where?!

thanks

I had heard testing was not going to plan and had encountered a few issues with the unit. It does however have to complete 2000 miles trouble free running befor entering service. Althought 378005 is expected to be the first unit out in revenue earning service
All tickets, rail passes and excuses you may have please ladies and gentlemen

What's happened to 378002-004 then, or are they being used for other testing purposes as with the 'Pendo.'s, when 001/002 were amongst the last to enter, having been used for all-manner of other tests first?

TfL's recent 'commisioners report' reports that the first 378s will not be in service until April:

"Bombardier is reporting a further delay to the delivery of the new
trains for the Overground and it is likely that they will now enter
service no earlier than April. While the problems can be traced back
to subcontractors, Bombardier have clear responsibility and they are
aware that TfL will be claiming damages as provided for in the
contract. While damages cover the financial costs to TfL, the new
trains are needed to accommodate the growing number of passengers on
the Overground and TfL continues to press Bombardier on the
inconvenience caused to passengers."

I have also heard about these incessant faults... i haven't heard any news of the unit recently though, which would suggest that it's under heavy maintenance? Or just being given a break?!

I'm out tomorrow.. if by chance I see anything in the Willesden area regarding this unit, (unlikely), I will post it, but as I say, I do doubt this.

anyone noted any further movement of this unit?!

There was a report in 'District Dave's' LU forum that a 378 was out on test through Camden Rd early this morning. I have seen nothing to suggest any other 378s have been delivered though, so it was probably unit 001...
