A double 321 set was on LST NRW diagrams all day on Sat. I noticed it on the 07:00 LST to NRW. Then later in the day, I caught it on the 17:00 LST - NRW. I assume it was up and down all day. Were CP short of serviceable 90's on the day? Or are NXEA regularly using EMU's on some diagrams now. One of the units was NXEA liveried 424, with two seats each side of the gangway - asopposed to a two plus three config - and some mini tables. I assume this is the long distance refurb option.
Bet drivers rostered on these were pleased - not! I for one was disappointed that the unit failed to do more than 90mph between LST and MTE - despite being on time.

Many hauled sets are short formed at the moment due to backlog of maintainence. In the last few weeks an extra set has been held at Crown Point to catch up & substituted on a diagram that usually starts SX with the 06.25 down. This ensures it has a Liverpool St based crew that sign 321s. Some days it has been a 12-car & through good planning with a Silverlink unit at either end as these have NRN radio required for the non-DOO section North of Ipswich & save the use of the portable radio. Unfortunatly many 321s have traction motors isolated again caused by the bad weather. The use of these units have also become common on this diagram due to a high number of fatalities resulting in the train being cleaned &/or inspected by BTP.

To be safe & avoid the possible EMU on your train steer clear of the 06.25/11.30/16.30 down & 09.00/14.00 then 19.00 or 22.00 up!! Catering if provided will only be from a static trolley in one unit.

Obviously one has also been broken up to provide carriages for the T&T diagram between Norwich and Great Yarmouth / Lowestoft due to the number of DMUs that hae been affected by fatalities.

Note 07:00 and 17:00 ex Liv St on the Saturday are almost certainly the same diagram too.
These are all personal opinions
